2018 State of DevOps Report by DORA briefly touches Organizational Culture by R Westrum. To gain more insight into the Westrum, I read the original paper and glad to share my understanding.
Important points from Westrum’s original article:
- Information flow is one of the markers for organizational culture
- Climate of an organization depends upon its culture
- Leadership plays a major role in organizational culture. Through their symbolic actions, as well as rewards and punishments, leaders communicate what they feel is important.
- Leadership via their symbolic actions, as well as rewards and punishments, communicate what they feel is important. These preferences then become the preoccupation of the workforce.
